3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene, also known as resveratrol is a very well known compound found first time in red wine. After this it has been studied to a large extent, to the point where it is thought of being behind the “French Paradox”; French people eat a high fat, high carbohydrate diet, are known for their smoking and alcohol drinking habits, and still they are one of the healthiest and longest living population on earth. As a result there are a lots of resveratrol supplements out there which are trying to bring this healthy compound for the people who don’t want to drink a bottle of red wine every day.

Myeloma is a form of cancer which takes place in the white blood cells – the cells which are mainly responsible for your immune functions. In many cases there is also kidney disfunction immunodeficiency and an abnormally high blood calcium level.

A recent study done by the Division of Hematology & Oncology in the University of Pittsburgh, reveled yet another health benefit of resveratrol. According to their findings there is a possibility that by using resveratrol, one could have a decreased risk of myeloma, and a better survival rate from it. It has been shown that bone marrow and white cell cancer cells have a higher death rate when the person is using resveratrol. This means that your body is more efficient in killing the malformed cells and maintaining a healthy blood white cell count.

More studies need to be done to make sure what types of doses can be recommended, but until then there is no harm to drink that occasional glass or two of red wine, or use resveratrol supplements on a daily basis. With supplements it is recommended to make sure that they are of the highest quality and the purest form, to avoid ingesting impurities.
